This week, I decided to make a long-term dream a reality. I’ve been wanting to publish a quality magazine/newspaper for about 10 years aimed at the microbusiness market (1-2 person service businesses). However, the work and investment required for a print publication was just too daunting. I then looked at PDF publication but was concerned that there would be too much work involved for too little profit.
Then I happened upon Ed Dale’s Magcast course teaching how to publish a magazine on the iPad through iTunes. I avidly watched his videos and decided that this would be the perfect medium for me. So, I enrolled in his course and am on my way to being the publisher of Authority Marketing Magazine! I’m having the template designed right now, and have just received acceptance of my new developer’s account with Apple.
I decided to make the leap because the magazine uses Mac Keynote or PowerPoint for formatting, and with Apple’s Newsstand, you have a built-in selling platform for recurring income. Of course, more marketing will be required that simply relying on Newsstand to make sales, but with 67 million users at last count, the iPad platform is a great place to get started.
My first issue should be ready in August and will focus on using Pinterest to market your business. I’m currently seeking contributors on this topic. If you’re interested in submitting your content, send it to me here. Or, if you’d like to get on my writer’s list, just opt-in here. Yes, I realize the magazine web site is pretty terrible, but I just wanted to get something up right away for short-term initial purposes. 🙂
