I thought I’d heard it all until I saw the story on the evening news about what happened here in Beaumont at our local Wal-Mart. Apparently, unruly shoppers who were in line for 5 AM "curt-rate" prices on laptops were maced by an off-duty police officer in an attempt to regain some order in the electronics department.
How insane are we to go to those lengths for a great price?
Now, I’m no great fan of Wally World, although I do shop there on occasion, as there are few options in smaller towns in Texas any longer. And, Wal-Mart is no angel here. The fact that they were offering only 19 laptops at the discounted rate is, in itself, a crime. Why? Because they sent a sales circular to a metropolitan area of 300,000 and had only 19 available. Is this unethical or what? At the least they should have offered a raincheck coupon to those folks who lined up early but weren’t able to get this product.
So, this has convinced me to shop online and avoid the nightmare of the malls and retail stores. Here’s a list compiled by Larry Chase’s Web Digest for Marketers of the Top 10 List of the Best Holiday Shopping Sites on the Web.
Happy shopping online!
