Google has a new tool that can help you with this: Google Trends. Google Trends lets you enter keywords to see what’s hot, what’s not and who says so. For example, entering the term "internet marketing" returns information showing that interest in this term is greater in Indonesia and the Philippines than in the US, that there are several recent articles on the topic, and that interest is relatively steady.
You can also compare search terms. Adding the phrase "online marketing" to the search (separate terms or phrases with commas) allows me to see that there are more searches for "internet marketing," and that "internet marketing" has a steadier interest.
Although Google Trends is still in beta testing, if you need to stay on top of the keywords, search patterns and important topics in your industry, it’s a valuable addition to your trendwatching tool belt.
