I like to use email to send myself reminders about things. However, sometimes the process of setting up that email reminder takes a few more steps than I would ideally like. Recently I discovered a very cool tool that you can use to automatically send yourself email reminders about tasks.
FollowUpThen lets you easily schedule followup emails and clear out your inbox by forwarding emails to FollowUpThen. You can use BCC or TO to schedule a reminder for yourself only or CC to schedule a reminder for you and the recipient.
If you BCC, you will receive a followup but they won’t bug the original recipient. If you address the email to FollowupThen in the TO field, you will get a followup after the time interval you specify. If you CC and if your recipient has not responded by the scheduled time, both of you receive a followup.
The great feature in this service is that you can schedule a reminder to recur until you tell it to stop. For example, schedule a reminder for every Friday by sending an email to everyfriday@followupthen.com. If you use Gmail or another email client that uses threaded conversations, your follow ups will reference your original email so they stay within the same conversation thread, making it easy to track down long conversations and stay on top of things. You can use almost any time interval, day of the week, specific date or time, or common scheduling terms like tomorrow or next month.
They don’t share your information with 3rd parties, and automatically delete your email contents once the followup has been sent, as well as your recipient’s email address. For logging and reference purposes, they do save the subjects of past followup emails.
This service is free and no account creation is required. However, you can update to a premium account for $24/year. With an upgraded account, you can receive SMS reminders on your phone right when you need them, customized followups for your recipients, and attachment support. You can also login from anywhere and manage your upcoming followups and easily schedule new and review recently completed followups. The premium account also permits you to link other email addresses you own to your FollowUpThen premium account. You can also add your company name, an intro message and modify the colors of your followup to match your brand or style as well add your own logo.
