Social Media Marketing: How to Build Your List Using Linkedin

Social Media Marketing: How to Build Your List Using Linkedin

The one marketing mantra that I repeat time and time again is this:  in all of your marketing strategies, your primary call to action should be to grow your list, even when doing social media marketing.  If you own a professional service business, don’t try and sell to your prospect immediately.  Typically you need to allow for some time to pass so that the prospect gets to like, know and trust you before they are ready to hire you for the problem that they need to solve.

Linkedin offers a very easy way for you to invite contacts to join your list from your profile.  You can do this through the use of one of the applications that Linkedin offers to connect to your profile.  If you have several applications currently linked to your profile, you may have to remove one in order to make room for this new one.

Here are the 4 steps to creating a call to action for your social media marketing on your Linkedin profile:

1.  Go to Google Documents.  If you don’t yet have a Google Documents account, create one now.  The application you need to use is Google Presentation.  Log into your account and go to this application.

2.  Create your presentation. Keep your presentation simple.  One slide is perfectly adequate.  On that slide in my presentation, I placed a headline, a brief description of why someone would want to download my giveaway (and join my list), an image of my giveaway, and the clickable URL that can be used to navigate to my opt-in page.  The cool feature about Google Presentation is that you can embed a URL that remains clickable when viewed through your Linkedin profile.

3.  Add the Google Presentation application to your Linkedin account.  You can do this by editing your profile and browsing down to the application selections.  When you link your Linkedin profile to Google Presentation, all of the presentations in your account will be displayed.  Select the one that you created for listbuilding.

4.  View updated profile.  Now, simply go to the View Profile option in Linkedin and you should see the presentation as a part of your profile.  You also have the option of notifying your contacts that you have uploaded this presentation, but I chose not to unnecessarily bother my contacts with this update.

Follow these quick and easy steps to insert your primary call to action on your Linkedin profile.  Now, your new contacts will have a  clear to action as they view your profile, which will enhance your social media marketing efforts and they begin the like, know, and trust journey with you.
