This year, for the 3rd year in a row, I attended the Entrpreneur Expo sponsored by the Ft. Worth Womens’ Business Center. This year’s experience was MUCH more fun, and much less tiring than previous years.
Last year, I was a vendor at the expo (to the tune of about $350 for a booth), arrived at 6:30 AM or so to set up the morning of the expo, and had to hang out until about 4:00 or so before I could tear down my booth. The lunch was horrible, and breakfast was non-existant, so by the end of the day I was hungry, very tired, and quite cranky. After we left the event, my co-horts in crime last led me to a local Mexican restaurant water hole to drown my sorrows in Margaritaville..;->.
I’ve enjoyed going to this event in the past just to see the new businesses that exhibit, and I knew that I didn’t want this year’s experience to leave me hungry, tired, and cranky again. So, this year we skipped lunch and only spent 2 hours touring the exhibit floor.
The result? I made about 66% of the number of contacts that took me all day to make last year, only blew 2 hours of my time, didn’t leave exhausted, and was able to enjoy the rest of my weekend.
The difference? I decided that the other exhibitors were my target market instead of the attendees, and that made all the difference in the world.
Hey, I may never do another tradeshow ever again!
