Getting Started with Affiliate Marketing
Q: I don’t have a website yet, and wouldn’t know how to make one that’s competitive enough. How do I earn online, especially from affiliates?

A: Hi Bernard:
Creating a website just became a whole lot easier with WordPress, an open-source blogging software that you can install in seconds on your hosting account. What’s better is that you can also update the site very easily yourself to help promote your affiliate products.
For affiliate marketing, I recommend the following products: (Note — Many of these links are my affiliate links and I receive a commission when someone purchases through my link.)
1. Namecheap for domain purchases. Namecheap offers lots of bells and whistles as a part of their domain registration that other companies don’t offer.
2. SiteGround for domain hosting. You need a hosting company that offers Cpanel hosting so that you have a 1-click install for WordPress. Simply log into your hosting account and locate the “Install WordPress” option on your account.
3. While you can use the template provided by WordPress 3.0 for your blogsite, I prefer using Thrive Themes. They also provide excellent tutorials and tech support for the installation and use of the theme.
4. Now that you have the products out of the way, here’s a quick primer on becoming successful as an affiliate marketer:
- Pick a niche that you’re passionate about or about which you have a great deal of knowledge.
- Find your target market’s pain in your chosen niche.
- Research keywords in that niche.
- Pick products that you own/love and have purchased so that you can authentically promote these.
- Create a free giveaway to begin to build your list.
- Create a squeeze page to collect opt-in info — enhance with audio and video.
- Write a series of 10 autoresponders to let your list members get to know you.
- Build a simple WordPress blog.
- Populate the blog with new posts.
- Write articles on this topic and publish them to your site.
- Visit related blogs and submit blog comments.
- Submit Amazon reviews on industry-related books and products.
- Write and submit press releases.
