Creating Reciprocal Links

After much urging by a colleague and after listening to a recommendation in my Traffic School program, I’m finally getting on the reciprocal link bandwagon.  As you may know, the number of inbound links to your website is one of the criteria that search engines use in ranking the your website. The reciprocal links need to be from websites related to your industry or target market.  So, for example, a link from a dog food manufacturer could actually hurt me, rather than help me, as my website has absolutely nothing to do with dog food.

I’ve tried this strategy before by doing manual updating, and the PITA factor got to be too great, and I gave it up.  However, a friend introduced me to Links Manager, which is an automated service that controls all of your reciprocal links.

There are a number of features that are very cool (and I still haven’t yet explored all of the features):

1.  The Links Manager staff will set up all of your links pages to look like your website, at no additional charge.

2.  Website owners wanting to exchange links can go to your site and enter all of their info.  All you have to do is log in and decide whether to approve their request.  Whether approved or denied, the system has an automatic email that goes out to the applicant (if you desire) to tell the applicant of his/her approval status.

3.  The program checks the applicant’s site for a reciprocal link and will continue to check periodically for reciprocal links, as well as check for dead links.

4.  The linking website owners can go in and change their info at any time, without having to personally contact you for an update.

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg, for $20/month. I’m currently trying it out on the free 30-day trial period, which you, too, can take advantage of at their site.
