Buying a site to sell name-brand products

Q:  I have closed my website.  After 4 months I had no sales. I am looking into purchasing another website just for selling online products.   How do you suggest I advertise for that?  The site sells name brand products that can be purchased on-line.

A:  Hi Teresa–

I think you’ll encounter the same difficulties with this new website as you did with your old one.  If this is a cookie cutter site that is sold to hundreds of other people as well, it’s going to be almost impossible for you to make an type of profit from it.  The product websites that do best are those that target to a very specific market and sell primarily one kind of item, i.e, dog clothing, truck bed covers, cell phone holders, etc.  You can scout around for a company who doesn’t have an online presence and offer to create one for them and sell their product online, or look for a manufacturer of a product that you love and create a website to sell that product.

Ways to advertise this include creating a blog, buying banner ads on those sites where your target market hangs out, buying PPC (pay-per-click) advertising on Google, and writing articles about your product.

Good luck!
