Are You In It For the Money?

Because I help others with their online marketing strategies, I'm on every Internet marketing gurus list out there.  That means that I receive roughly 500-800 emails per day.  Many of them I delete or save to read for a rainy day.  Well over 90% of them from Internet marketers are promising me that I'm going to become the next bazillionaire or will earn $60,000 overnight.  Or, better yet, their web sites feature these gurus taking exotic cruises, standing beside their expensive sports cars, or sitting beside the pool in their McMansion.

I've long been hesitant to call myself an Internet marketer because of these promises of extravagant wealth that permeate the industry.  My husband and I were talking about this issue last night.  We could easily afford to live in a nicer home, drive newer cars, and purchase more toys.  However, that's not the driving motivation for either of us. We each have enough to do what we want when we want it.  Granted, Eric would like more free time and I would like a home with a bit more square footage.  We're both relatively happy and buying "more stuff" won't increase that happiness quotient at all.

Even if I were independently wealthy, I'd still run my business because I enjoy it.  Granted, the money it produces is nice and keeps me in business, but it's the joy I get from helping others, as well as the challenges it brings every day that keep me entertained, engaged, and at the top of my game are the key features for me. 

So, it's doubtful that you'll ever see me engaged in any marketing promising overnight riches.  Money is just not my primary motivator — but a job well done is.  How about you?
