For those of us here in the U.S., April 15 means one thing — it’s the deadline by which you must pay (or pay and file for an extension) for your U.S. income taxes. I’ve fallen off the wagon for the last several years and have filed for extensions. My extension filing started in 2006 for the 2005 tax year.
Hurricane Rita blew through here in 2005 and the road to recovery for SE Texas was pretty rough. I kept moving between homes until I could finally settle in and unpack in one place, knowing that I would be there for awhile. April 2006 showed up too quickly, and my paperwork was still scattered to the four winds. So, I filed for an extension for my 2005 taxes so that I could catch up on my paperwork. I got my taxes in by the Oct. 15 extension deadline, but have been hopelessly behind ever since.
I’m always resolving that “this” year will be the year when I actually file in a timely fashion. I’ll let you know on April 15, 2011 how well that worked out…..
